Trampled by Turtles’ afternoon set at the Palomino Stage was a callback to the early years of Stagecoach. When the fest started in 2007, there was another stage called the Mustang that was dedicated to bluegrass and it’s where Trampled by Turtles made their Stagecoach debut in 2010. It was a rollicking party back then like it was on Saturday. With a setlist that leaned heavily on the Minnesota band’s early albums, it was a welcome nostalgia trip. And 14 years after its release, set closer “Wait So Long” still absolutely shreds. Located exactly one crosswalk away from Warner Brothers Studios, Smoke House has been a Valley legend since 1942 and a place where, on any given night, you’ll find celebrities, set designers, and security guards all swigging martinis and toasting to another day on the lot.

Plus, there was the whole Backwoods Barbie conspiracy theory that had some members of the Beyhive convinced that the DJs playing Saturday evening in Diplo’s Honkytonk were actually Beyoncé. Rumors swirled that Beyoncé was going to swing by Stagecoach ever since her big rig and a plane with a “Cowboy Carter” banner flew around Coachella. And Saturday seemed like the most likely day for an appearance since Willie Nelson, Post Malone and Tanner Adell not only performed on her new album, but that plane was spotted flying overhead again. Post Malone’s special set of country covers at the Indio festival included some big names in the genre, including Brad Paisley.
Stagecoach’s strangest bedfellows
“There’s obviously a God-given beauty and grace and talent. But it’s the fact that she works so extremely hard. “Those shows don’t just happen,” Adell said. “She’s showing us how hard she works to get it where it needs to be.” — M.W. Early in the day there are traditional line dancing demonstrations, a hallmark of the Honkytonk since it started at the fest, but since Diplo has taken over the branding of the dance hall, the space is bringing in more big-name EDM acts in the late afternoon and early evening. And if you wanted to see Dillon Francis on Friday or the Chainsmokers on Saturday (both artists who have played Coachella), you needed to be there well in advance to even get into the tent.

Stagecoach 2024: Post Malone, Miranda Lambert and the best, the worst and the weird of Day 2
The space is essentially a series of massive interconnecting dining rooms, each filled with various fireplaces, wood-paneled walls, and of course, hundreds of framed acting headshots. As for food, don’t get too cute with your order—this is the kind of place where if your table isn’t filled up with caesar salads, massive plates of prime rib, and several orders of their famous garlic bread, you took a wrong turn somewhere. There’s always a wild card or two on the Stagecoach schedule, but the one that seemed most like a fever dream was the teaming of Clint Black, Diplo and Guy Fieri for a cooking demonstration late Saturday afternoon at Guy’s Stagecoach Smokehouse. Post Malone took a swig from a red plastic cup and wiped his mouth on the sleeve of his plaid-print Western shirt. After Coachella’s back-to-back weekends, barely any grass remains on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club. But that hasn’t stopped tens of thousands of country fans from venturing here for Stagecoach, which got underway Friday afternoon and runs though Sunday night with headliners Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Morgan Wallen.

Perhaps Lambert was distracted by the high desert winds that kept threatening to blow off her cowboy hat; perhaps she’s spent too much time in Las Vegas, where the undemanding enthusiasm of a residency audience can soften a performer’s game. Either way, this was a reminder — after Church’s polarizing Friday-night gospel experiment — that sticking to the hits isn’t always what you want. From Jelly Roll’s big night and Eric Church’s somber set to Dwight Yoakam’s flying fringe, these are the biggest moments from Day 1 of Stagecoach 2024.

You may think of centipedes as common insects, but they are more closely related to shrimp, crayfish, and lobsters than to many other bugs. Some people call them “hundred leggers,” but the name “centipede” really means “hundred feet.”. By implementing these house centipede prevention tips, you create an environment that is less appealing to these pests. Prevention is the best way to keep your home centipede-free and more comfortable for you and your family. Preventing house centipedes from invading your home is an essential step in maintaining a pest-free environment.
Pantry Foods That Never Expire
Although you may not like the sight of house centipedes, they can be helpful in controlling more concerning pests. Getting rid of other pests from your house will go a long way toward reducing the number of house centipedes you see. Centipedes are generally dark brown or yellow and sometimes have darker colors and markings. Adult centipedes have three dark parallel lines running from their head to the rear end of their bodies and a hair-covered pair of antennae on their heads. While some centipede species have compound eyes containing up to 200 optical units, others have a few simple eyes on each side of the head. If you see house centipedes emerging from various cracks or crawl spaces, try using a high-powered vacuum cleaner to suck them out.
What Attracts House Centipedes?
Whether you prefer natural or chemical methods, here are some effective solutions that get rid of a house centipede infestation. Unlike most other centipedes, house centipedes and their close relatives have well-developed faceted eyes. You’ll be glad to know that it doesn’t have much of an effect at all.
Where are you likely to find centipedes?
This venom is injected when they bite as a way to subdue their prey so they can eat it. The amount of venom used when a centipede bites is tiny, so it’s not likely to impact a human very much. The biggest worry with a bite, instead, is the pain of the bite, which will go away quickly. Some people, however, are allergic to the venom used by the centipede, so they should take care to avoid the centipedes and have them removed from the home if they’re seen. House centipedes are skilled hunters that prey on insects and other arthropods.
If you notice that your bite isn’t getting any better, or that you’ve had an allergic reaction, you should seek out medical attention. There are various ways to keep centipedes out of your home—or at least make it more difficult for them to move in—beyond banishing the bugs they eat. In addition to using a dehumidifier, run your bathroom fan for a solid five minutes after a bath or shower to remove moisture. Seal up any cracks or crevices where house centipedes may be sneaking in, and caulk all baseboards and door and window casings.
They can complete their entire life cycle indoors, feeding on insects while shielded from the elements. Although the pests are generally not harmful, issues can arise when centipedes live close to people. Researchers must continue to study centipede bites to determine the effect of the different components of centipede venom on humans. In this article, we discuss the possible symptoms and treatments of a centipede bite, as well as the outlook for a person who receives one. Centipedes are great at finding hiding spaces, attracted to the dark and damp spots such as a pile of wet towels or hard-to-get-to crawl spaces in the attic. If there are enough of these hospitable environments, plus other pests as a plentiful food source, you can quickly find yourself with a centipede infestation.
Ways to Remove House Centipedes
Centipede bites may become infected if not kept clean and the bite wound is not disinfected and properly treated. Sprays or dusts should be applied to sites where centipedes are suspected such as cracks and crevices in concrete slabs, block walls, etc. On the other hand, the giant desert centipede (Scolopendra heros) found in the Southwest, is a very large centipede that can reach 8 – 10 inches in length.

However, serious bite effects are more likely to be the result of secondary infection than the bite itself. Because house centipedes prefer warm and wet environments, they’re frequently found in the Southern states. However, you’ll also find them in Northern basements, taking shelter from the cold outside. Thankfully, centipedes consider insects their prey, not humans. But like many animals who feel threatened, centipedes can lash out when provoked. Rest assured, the common house centipede found in the U.S. is rarely dangerous and even more rarely life threatening.
What Can be Done to Remove House Centipedes?

Sam aims to answer homeowners’ difficult questions by providing well-researched, accurate, transparent, and entertaining content to Today’s Homeowner readers. Some of the plates covering the body segments fused and became smaller during the evolution to the current state of S. The resulting mismatch between body segments and dorsal plates (tergites) is the cause for this centipede's rigid body.
Although people use the term “bite,” a centipede does not actually use their mouthparts to damage the skin. When a centipede feels threatened, it will pierce the skin of its prey with the pincer-like tips of the legs closest to the head, which are called forcipules. The most effective way to prevent a centipede infestation is to reduce areas of moisture in and around your home.
If a house centipede were to bite a human, the effects would likely be minimal. Their venom is designed to incapacitate insects, not to harm larger creatures like humans. A bite from a house centipede might cause localized pain, swelling, and redness at the site of the bite, similar to a bee sting. However, most people might not even notice any symptoms, as reactions can vary widely depending on an individual's sensitivity to insect venom. House centipedes feed on spiders, bed bugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish, ants, and other household arthropods.
Other insects can include just about any insects that can get inside your home, whether or not you can see them. Unless the person is experiencing a severe allergic reaction, medical attention is not usually necessary for a centipede bite. Some people may experience an allergic reaction to a centipede bite. Researchers in Thailand described a situation in which a 23-year-old man experienced anaphylactic shock — a severe allergic reaction — after a centipede bit him. Their bites are similar to a bee sting in terms of pain and are not dangerous unless a person is allergic to their venom. House centipedes are often attracted to other pests like spiders, ants, and cockroaches, which they feed on.
However, some centipedes have venom which produces a variety of toxins, including chemicals such as histamine, serotonin, and cardio-depressant toxin-S. Regarding the question of whether or not house centipedes bite, the answer is yes, but with a caveat. Their fangs can deliver a bite similar to a wasp sting, which can be painful but is rarely dangerous. In fact, house centipedes play an essential role in controlling other pests, as they prey on insects and other arachnids. As long as you’re not allergic to their venom, you can coexist with these useful creatures without much trouble. House centipedes can look scary, but they’re not harmful and are not likely to bite humans.
They are nocturnal, so they’re more likely to be seen at night than during the day. Even though venom from most species of centipedes is not powerful enough to affect larger animals and humans, the pests remain unwelcome in most homes. Orkin has the tools and know-how to get rid of centipedes when they move indoors. Centipedes enter homes in fall to escape the cold and hunt for food.
Keep them away with a few prevention tactics.
Coleoptrata has developed automimicry in that its tail-like hind legs present the appearance of antennae. When the centipede is at rest, it is not easy to tell its cranial end from its caudal end. Technically speaking, house centipedes are venomous, not poisonous.
Responding to Infestations
You might encounter them beneath large rocks or hiding in stacks of wood or compost heaps. They are often discovered in basements, bathrooms, garages, or other moisture-rich nooks and crannies. House centipedes are sensitive to light and tend to seek shelter during daylight hours, adding to the challenge of spotting them in your home. Coleoptrata showed the ability to distinguish between possible prey, avoiding dangerous insects.

First da house burned down, now centipede bite me.
However, seeing it happen in real-time is rare due to the nocturnal nature of the insect. When they find one, they’ll use their legs to pounce and trap the bug. Pain, redness, and swelling begin immediately upon being bitten. These symptoms may last anywhere from several hours to several days. Centipedes bite by puncturing skin with clawed, pointy legs located on their first body segment. Over the years, our website, whatsthatbug.com has received hundreds of letters and some interesting images asking us about these insects.
Are House Centipedes Dangerous?
The prognosis after a centipede bite is excellent, although some people report anxiety. Not only may a centipede sting hurt like the dickens, but even imagining a multi-legged creature slithering up your arm can be understandably unnerving. They kill their prey through a process called envenomation, where they inject venom directly into their victims through a bite, sting or pinch.
At-home treatments can be effective at reducing pain and symptoms. If your symptoms worsen, you have signs of infection, or an allergic reaction, seek medical help. House centipedes originated in the Mediterranean but have spread to be just about anywhere that is warm and humid. They tend to find their way into homes through small cracks that could let other insects in as well and will stay in a home as long as they have a food source. They enter homes to look for other types of insects that can typically be found in homes.
In most cases, any symptoms will disappear within 48 hours (rub with some cold water if it is irritating you). If this does occur, always head to your local GP for further advice. House centipedes do have venom, which they use to kill their prey. However, they do not bite often and, when they do, their bite is not strong enough to break human skin or to cause more than a mild reaction. Centipedes are most active at night because they shy away from light and are nocturnal hunters.
Household Items You Had No Idea Were Flammable
The house centipede moves very quickly and always seem to dart out in front of you when you're vulnerable, like when you're just out of the shower or carrying something fragile. For people who tend to be startled or frightened by insects, these leggy prehistoric-looking creatures are the stuff of nightmares. House centipedes love damp and dark areas, so homes with moisture could be a reason they invade. Many people find them in their wardrobes, bathrooms, cellars, or bathtubs and sinks. Remember, they are attracted to other pests and will do everything they can to find them.
Determine what other types of arthropods, in your house, are providing a meal for the centipedes by distributing 'sticky insect traps', also called monitors, around the house. These monitors (and the service for identifying the specimens) can be obtained through a pest control company. House centipedes possess a set of specialized front legs that are modified into venomous fangs, known as forcipules.
House centipedes are attracted to things that help them hide. Clearing any debris that may become damp (such as leaves, dirt, grass clippings, or weeds) from around the perimeter of your home may help deter them from entering. Hi PHil, We do not recommend ridding your home of House Centipedes. They are harmless predators that will eat more destructive and harmful arthropods in your home. From appearance to where you might find them, here's everything you need to know about centipedes...
These centipedes can live a long time compared to most insects, with some living as long as 5 to 6 years. They do have venom that they use on their prey, but the venom is not sufficient to cause issues for most people if they do bite. All centipedes have very poor eyesight and track their prey through the use of touch and smell. In actuality, arthropods commonly known as wood eating centipedes are millipedes. While millipedes do closely resemble centipedes, millipedes are herbivores and detritivores, surviving on dead and decaying plant material, including wood or cellulose material. Although the house centipede does possess venom, it rarely bites anything larger than itself.
These bugs wouldn’t be around if they didn’t have the means to survive. Complications from centipede bites may result from infection or from damage to the skin and tissue where the bite occurred. Your doctor may give you a tetanus shot or, if they suspect infection, prescribe antibiotics.
House centipedes can bite you, but those instances are pretty rare. Centipede bites can be identified by two puncture marks where they inject their venom into the skin. Some treatments include heat application, ice packs, and medications to reduce pain and swelling.
These forcipules are used to inject venom into their prey, which mainly consists of insects and other small arthropods. House centipedes are primarily nocturnal predators, hunting for their prey in the dark. Their speed and agility, aided by their many legs, allow them to catch fast-moving insects effectively.

That is a federal anti-discrimination law that bars discrimination based on shared ancestry, ethnic characteristics or national origin. Adding IHRA’s definition to the law would allow the federal Department of Education to restrict funding and other resources to campuses perceived as tolerating anti-Semitism. If the bill were to become law, it would codify a definition of anti-Semitism created by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. First, we have legislative jurisdiction over the city of Washington, D.C. We’ve already passed legislation signed into law that rescinds D.C.’s soft-on-crime policies. We are going to have an emergency hearing Wednesday with the Mayor and Police Chief of Washington, D.C. We want to make sure MPD is working with campus police to ensure the safety of all the students. Second, we want to follow the money trail to see if outside groups are paying for these activities.

Uniting all of antisemitism’s strands is a persistent demonization that casts Jews not only as “others” (i.e., as intrinsically different or alien) but also as irredeemably threatening and dangerously powerful — as troublemakers, shysters, capitalists, anarchists, communists, sexual degenerates, etc. The elements that make up antisemitism derive from various historical conditions, and in our current time combine to form pejorative claims that include religion, race, culture and politics. They portray Jews as secretive, manipulative, untrustworthy, controlling, and dangerous — as well as responsible for other people’s suffering.

Stefanik also addressed the pro-Hamas, antisemitic rioting mob that took over an academic building at Columbia last night and reiterated her commitment to hold America’s so-called elite colleges and universities accountable. “The semantic and interpretive morass around defining antisemitism underscores the essential futility of the enterprise of codifying a kind of bigotry in speech and thought, something we have never needed to do, and have never done, in statute. We have multiple laws against acts of race, sex, religious and age discrimination but nowhere do we attempt to codify the general meaning of ‘racism,’ ‘sexism,’ ‘religious animus,’ or ‘ageism,’ for example. The general phenomenon of the contemptuous attitude described becomes recognizable and actionable only in the conduct of a perpetrator committing specific criminal or civilly wrongful actions.
Its visceral brutality is more repulsive than engrossing, but The Last House on the Left nevertheless introduces director Wes Craven as a distinctive voice in horror. The parents accidentally find out the identities of the killers, because of a stolen locket and some blood-stained clothing in their baggage. Enraged, the father takes on the gang single-handedly and murders them. Setting aside the modern details, this is roughly the plot of Ingmar Bergman's "The Virgin Spring." I think David had that insane actor psycho side, but also this beautiful hippie Laurel Canyon side to him as well.
I really enjoyed his music, I listened to it for years after I met him. I wish I had my old answering machine with messages from him asking me when we were going to make “Cabin Fever 2” together. I’d like to reconnect with his kids Bo and Jesse as well, they were pretty great. When Quentin wanted to use the music in “The Hateful Eight” I put him in touch with the same people who helped me back in the day.

While the film initially received a polarizing reception from critics, it was highly profitable, grossing over $3 million at the domestic box office. “In this sense, the essential emptiness of the IHRA definition is apparently its appeal. 6090 directs the Department of Education to ‘take into consideration’ the contentless IHRA Definition (‘a certain perception’), which means the legislation adds essentially nothing to the prevailing common-sense approach Department of Education officials use to understand antisemitism.

It was a blast to see the music with my first film in cinemas, and gave me an excuse to talk about how much I love the music. In December 2019, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order asking federal agencies to expand the interpretation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include the IHRA’s definition of antisemitism. The IHRA definition of antisemitism includes modern manifestations of antisemitism like justifying the killing of Jews and holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the state of Israel. - Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted in favor of the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act to require the Department of Education to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA)’s working definition of antisemitism and its contemporary examples when enforcing anti-discrimination laws. Just look at the abject failure of Columbia’s president to enforce their own code of conduct that they gave lip service to during the recent Education and Workforce hearing.
Storyline
Krug attempts to flee, but after being cornered by a traumatized Sadie and a chainsaw-wielding John, he is incapacitated by an electrocution booby trap. After a scuffle between her and Estelle, she falls into the backyard swimming pool where her throat is slit by Estelle. Like the exploitation films Night of the Living Dead (1968) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), the film has received critical reevaluation years after release, with particular praise towards the narrative and performances of Peabody and Hess. It has since achieved a cult following and received a nomination for AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills in 2001. As they try to find the key to their boat so that they can take Mari to the hospital, Francis happens upon Mari. When going after Krug and Sadie, who are in bed, they find Justin holding Krug's gun; Justin gives the gun to John so that he can kill Krug.
Moreover, for this legislation to pass constitutional muster, courts would have to use the canon of ‘constitutional avoidance,’ meaning that it would have to be interpreted to avoid collision with First Amendment values and boundaries. Thus, if any actual speech is targeted on a viewpoint-specific basis, the Department of Education could not lawfully act against speech on that basis and, if it does, it would have to be deemed unconstitutional. For example, if a university prohibits students from opposing ‘any form of religious or ethnic nationalism except Zionism’ or, in reverse, prohibits students from opposing ‘Zionism but not any other form of religious or ethnic nationalism,’ this would be textbook viewpoint discrimination under the First Amendment. I don't want to give the impression, however, that this is simply a good horror movie. It's horrifying, all right, but in ways that have nothing to do with the supernatural.
Craven has said that The Last House on the Left was inspired, in part, by the explicit footage that was piped into news segments on Vietnam war, but wasn’t reflected by the horror and action films being produced at the time. The country was willing to send its young people off to war, but it couldn’t confront the same violence and death in a theater. It’s hard to define the film’s political point of view, other than a prevailing feeling that wars were being fought at home, too, and that the idealism of the love generation had curdled into bad vibes. It may not be a film about America or Vietnam per se, but it’s an essential mood ring of the early 70s.
Estelle and her husband rush into the woods, where they find Mari's body and decide to take revenge. Estelle pretends to seduce Weasel, bites off his penis, and leaves him to bleed to death. Krug escapes into the living room and overpowers John before manipulating Junior into killing himself.
By then, he had already released a solo album, “The Promise,” in 1976. He spent many years off the scene, part of that time consulting on composing music for computers for Atari, the video game maker, before recording a second album, “Among the Stars,” in 1995. He also recorded two albums for children, “Planet With One Mind” (1995) and “A People With One Heart” (1996), in which he told stories, accompanied by his musical arrangements. Over the years, The Last House on the Left has gained a reputation that’s as queasily polarized as its own swings between savage violence and slapstick comedy. On the one hand, it’s a high-minded debasement of Ingmar Bergman’s The Virgin Spring, as much a throbbing counterculture hangover as the Rolling Stones’ Altamont documentary Gimme Shelter was two years before. On the other, it’s a film full of such pitiless sadism that UK censors refused to certify the film for cinema release, and in the 1980s it was placed on a list of potentially obscene “video nasties” – it then remained unavailable in uncut form in Britain until 2008.
I went to a screening of it at the Cinematheque while I was editing “Cabin Fever” and saw Wes Craven speak. And it was during that screening that I thought,“You could never use music like this in a horror movie today.” Then it occurred to me, what if I used that same music in “Cabin Fever? ” “Cabin Fever” was more like “Cabin Favor” — everyone was doing it for free in the hopes of some back-end money (which luckily paid off) and our entire music budget for source music was $1,500. So I found David Hess and told him I’d like to use six songs in the film, and he was so gracious and generous. He said I could do it but we had to record “Wait for the Rain” with his kids, and the entire music budget would go to his friend Greg Hilfman who would engineer the session. I said absolutely, and thought it was perfect for the end credits.
I first saw it in a theater when I was a freshman at NYU and the producer Roy Frumkes screened a 16mm print, and I believe David Szulkin was there or set it up. David and I had gone to high school together and he was starting a book on “Last House on the Left” at the time, which I thought was pretty impressive. I liked the film but didn’t dare write a book about it, you really had to know your Krug to do that. I didn’t feel good after I saw “Last House on the Left,” but I never forgot it. It’s not the type of film one can enjoy, but you can certainly admire it, both in its filmmaking technique and the unflinching way Craven deals with the subject matter.
The United States House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a bill that would expand the federal definition of anti-Semitism, despite opposition from civil liberties groups. Rights groups warn that the definition could further chill freedom of speech as protests continue on college campuses. While Mr. Fetterman may have been in the minority among his political peers, with most of whom following the president’s example and opting for a traditional tux, creative black tie proved a talking point. See Billy Porter in a black sequin caftan over a classic white shirt; Questlove, in an artistically paint-splattered jacket; and Fran Drescher, the SAG-AFTRA president, in a white brocade pantsuit. Kevin Gilbert, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from Middlesex County prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan. "Last House on the Left" is a tough, bitter little sleeper of a movie that's about four times as good as you'd expect.
